Sustainable Practice
The operations at Dorowa Minerals Limited are associated with various impacts on safety, health and environment. The positive impacts of the processes are sustained and continuously being enhanced. These include onsite two large water storage dams which are also a source of livelihood for the community. The community engages in income-generating through fishing from the mine dams whilst livestock water in these dams. Rehabilitation of mined out and tailing disposal areas is ongoing with backfilling of excavated areas and planting of trees, grasses and shrubs to ensure the disturbed areas blend-in with the natural surroundings. Water recovery and recycling is at the centre of the water preservation strategy. This ensures the scarce resource is utilized optimally and sustainably. Interventions such as dust suppression along mine haul roads, clearance of invasive plant species such lantana camara, controlled blasting, etc., mitigate the negative impacts of mining operations. To ensure the operations are managed in a sustainable manner, and to provide assurance to its stakeholders, Dorowa Minerals Limited implements and is working toward certification to internationally recognized business management systems in the domains of quality, health, safety and environmental management, i.e., ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO45001. Continued compliance to the requirements of these standards is regularly checked by the statutory bodies such as the Environmental Management Agent, NSSA and the Ministry of Mines.
