Company Timeline

  • 1924 AE & CI commenced production of mixed fertilizers in Rhodesia.
  • 1935-1945 Business adversely affected by the Great Depression & the Second World War
  • 1930-1956: The Rodia factory expanded with the addition of new plants.
  • By 1956 these included production of sulphuric acid from imported oleum, an arsenic refinery, a cattle dips plant and a formulation plant for the production of insecticidal dusts, emulsions and solutions.
  • 1956: Construction of the Superphosphate Plant commenced
  • 1960: A new Aluminium Sulphate plant commissioned
  • 1965: A second sulphuric acid plant commenced production.
  • 1965: Dorowa Minerals commissioned, replacing imports of phosphate rock concentrates.
  • 1969: Mono Calcium Phosphate production commenced, replaced imports of phosphate stock feeds.
  • 1981: Rodia changes name to ZimPhos and AECI changes to Chemplex.
  • 1989: Major Uprate of Pyrites Burning Sulphuric Acid Plant at ZimPhos
  • 1992: Chemplex adopted the Total Quality Management philosophy TQM
  • 1995: Veterinary Formulations plant certified to ISO9002
  • 1997: Upgrading of Aluminium Sulphate Plant at ZimPhos
  • 1998: Upgrading of Phosphoric Acid Plant at ZimPhos
  • 2006: Record sulphuric acid exports to Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo
  • 2010: G&W Industrial Minerals acquired by Chemplex, Pyrites based acid plant decommissioned
  • 2012-2013: Revamp of Sulphur burning sulphuric acid plant, Magnetite Expansion at Dorowa
  • 2021-2022: Further expansion of the magnetite plant at Dorowa, Commissioning of fertilizer plants (Blending& Granulation) at ZIMPHOS, Commissioning of new tick grease and Grain protectant plants at CAPH
  • 2023: Launch of the new fertiliser blending plant and continuous improvements in product innovation
  • 2025: Investment in infrastructure upgrades including new granulator and refurbished alum plant
